The Cobb Festival Singers, based in Marietta, Georgia, is expecting to grow to 32 select singers for their Second Master Season in 2010-2011. Created by the Choral Foundation in August 2009, the chorus of mixed adult voices enjoyed a successful Inaugural Season. After less than two months of rehearsal, the group performed publicly for the first time in October 2009. They were featured in the 2009 Christmas Atlanta Festival in December, and Convocation 2010 in February. Their first solo concert, “Candlelight On the Square” was enthusiastically received by a capacity audience on December 12, 2009. On March 6, 2010, the chorus joined with distinguished soloists and professional orchestra for a performance of Antonio Vivaldi’s BEATUS VIR, Franz Josef Haydn’s TE DEUM, and Franz Schubert’s MASS IN G. The season concluded with the first CFS appearance in the Marietta Festival of Music.
The Cobb Festival Singers, in the tradition of the Choral Foundation’s festival singers choirs, specializes in short-form sacred a cappella classical works, spirituals, and folks music from cultures across the globe. The chorus also presents a major choral/orchestral masterwork with professional orchestra and soloists in the spring of each year.
Plans for the 2010-2011 concert season include the Second Season Opening Concert in October, a return appearance at the Christmas Atlanta Festival and the Marietta Festival of Music, the 2010 performance of Candlelight On the Square, and a performance of works for chorus and orchestra by Gabriel Faure that will feature his exquisitely beautiful REQUIEM and CANTIQUE DE JEAN RACINE.
