The Lynn Swanson Festival Singers (formerly Cobb Festival Singers), based in Marietta, Georgia, is an ensemble of 26 select singers who just completed their Second Master Season in 2010-2011. The Lynn Swanson Festival Singers is an ensemble of The William Baker Choral Foundation. In the tradition of the Choral Foundation’s festival singers choirs, it specializes in short-form sacred a cappella classical works, spirituals, and folks music from cultures across the globe. The chorus also presents a major choral/ orchestral masterwork with professional orchestra and soloists in the spring of each year.
Created by the Choral Foundation in August 2009, the chorus of mixed adult voices enjoyed a successful Inaugural Season in 2009-2010. After less than two months of rehearsal, the group performed publicly for the first time in October 2009. They have been featured in the 2009 and 2010 Christmas Atlanta Festivals in December and Convocation 2010 last February.
Their solo concerts include:
Candlelight On the Square enthusiastically received by a capacity audience on December 12, 2009 at St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta and their March 6, Masterworks Concert where they performed Antonio Vivaldi’s BEATUS VIR, Franz Josef Haydn’s TE DEUM, and Franz Schubert’s MASS IN G with Kazanetti Chamber Orchestra and Organist, Sue Goddard.
The 2
010-2011 concert season included their Masterworks Concert performing works for chorus and orchestra by Gabriel Faure featuring his exquisitely beautiful REQUIEM and CANTIQUE DE JEAN RACINE along with Morten Lauridsen’s La ROSES COMPLETE and DIRAIT-ON from Les CHANSONS des ROSES. The Lynn Swanson Festival Singers concluded the second season with the Northside Young Singers at the Annual Marietta Festival of Music.
