Questions & Answers

Why should children sing?

Every person in human history has raised his or her voice in song beginning in childhood and throughout their lives. For many children, singing is as natural as breathing.

Participation in a singing group in childhood teaches musical skills that can be enjoyed throughout life.

Participation in a quality children’s choir builds relationships with wholesome friends in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Research has proven that children who participate in structured musical activities perform better, on average, in all areas of school work, and they are more involved in community service as adults.

Why choose the Northside Young Singers?

The professional staff of the Northside Young Singers is committed to the musical, social, educational and creative growth of your child.

Though a new musical group, the Northside Young Singers is sponsored by the Choral Foundation, a national organization begun in Atlanta in 1990 that now involves over 500 choral singers in ten ensembles based in three states.

It is the purpose of the Northside Young Singers to connect your child with quality musical classics, folk works and songs from cultures across the globe.

The Northside Young Singers is a family-friendly musical organization. Tuition is modest, and scholarship support is readily available in cases of need. A faithful commitment to rehearsals and concerts is expected, but schedules are designed to accommodate the needs of our busy families.

How does our family get involved?

The Northside Young Singers experience begins for your family with a simple audition. The audition is designed to evaluate your child’s vocal quality and musical aptitude through a friendly, non-threatening process. The audition session includes:

  • Getting Acquainted
  • Singing a Favorite Song Unaccompanied
  • “My Country Tis of Thee” is a Great Choice
  • Singing Notes Played On the Piano

While your child is completing his or her audition, parents will have an opportunity to discuss the expected commitment to faithful attendance to rehearsals and concerts. Of course, our staff will be available to answer any questions you may have before the audition as well as during this conversation.

What age children are invited to interview for placement in one of our two choirs?
