William Baker Festival Singers Open 30th Season October 26

The 35-voice Atlanta-based William Baker Festival Singers join with the Orchestra of the American Heartland to open their 30th anniversary season with teh annual Andrew Cain Memorial masterworks Concert.  Works incldue Gregorio Allegri:  MISERERE MEI, Ralph Vaugh Williams: LORD, THOU HAST BEEN OUR REFUGE, R. 6th Annual Season Opening Concert

The Lynn Swanson Festival Singers present their 6th Annual Season Opening Concert of a cappella classics and spirituals on Saturday, 8 November, 7:00 PM, at the Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, 100 West Church Street in downtown Cartersville, GA.  The diverse concert features classics by Palestrina, Standford and Mendelssohn, modern works by Lauridsen, Tavener and Clausen, and a host of American folk hymns and spirituals. Festival Singers Return to Helzberg Hall November 8

The 50-voice Kansas City-based William Baker Festival Singers return to Helzberg Hall of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday evenin, 8 November at 8:00 PM.  The concert of diverse classics and spirituals includes William Dreyfoos:  SONGS OF THE HOLOCAUST, performed with members of the Kansas City Symphony and guest soloist Margaret Kelly Cook, Brahms: O HEILAND REISS DIE HIMMEL AUF, Pachelbel: SINGET DEM HERRN, modern works by John Tavener, Mark Gresham, and R. Douglas Helvering, and concludes with the choir’s signature spirituals and gospel pieces.  Saturday evening, 8 November at 8:00 PM. Zimria Festivale Atlanta is the newest ensemble of the Choral Foundation.  Under the leadership of Music Director Amy Thropp, the 25-40 chorus will be selected by audition, and will specialize in music of the Jewish tradition and the works of composers of Jewish heritage.  The 2014-2015 season will feature two short term projects before the group begins year round activity in 2015-2016.  Rehearsals are Thursday evenings in Atlanta, GA.

Christmas with the Festival Singers

Christmas with the Festival Singers will feature the combined voices of the William Baker & Lynn Swanson Festival Singers, joined by the Midtown Brass & Organ. The popular concert of beloved carols and classics will be presented Saturday evening, 6 December at 7:00 PM at the St. Benedict’s Episoal Church in Smyrna, GA, and Sunday afternoon, 7 December at 3:00 PM at the historic Grace United Methodist Church in Midtown Atlanta.  Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 students & +65; under 12 free.  Tickets are available at the door or online at www.FestivalSinger.org.

Festival Singers & Friends Benefit Wayside Waifs November 21

The William Baker Festival Singers will present a concert and art show & sale for the benefit of Wayside Waifs, Kansas City’s largest no-kill pet rescue and adoption organization.  The concert and art show will be presented in the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Community Christian Church, 4601 Main Street on the historic Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO.  Friday evening, 21 November at 7:30 PM.  Admission is free, and 100% of donated proceeds support Wayside Waifs.

After an acclaimed debut in 2014, the Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit will perform Gabriel Faure: REQUIEM, along with works of other French composers in the summer of 2015.  The chorus will be joined by members of the Kansas City Symphony and distinguished professional soloists.  Lynn Swanson and William Baker, Music Directors.  Rehearsals are Thursday evenings, June and July, in historic downtown Lee’s Summit, MO.  No Audition Required.  membership registration opens March 1, 2015.

Position Available: Music Director & Conductor



The William Baker Choral Foundation announces an employment opening for the position of Music Director & Conductor of the ensemble known since 1998 as the William Baker Festival Singers of Atlanta. It was created in 1985 as the Gwinnett Festival Singers.  Applications will be accepted through September 15, 2014, with the goal of an appointment by January 1, 2015.  The position will begin June 1, 2015, for the 31st concert season of the ensemble in 2015-2016.  Compensation will include base salary and performance incentives.

Responsibilities will include all phases of building and leading a major semi-professional choral ensemble.  The successful candidate will possess appropriate education in choral leadership, and will have demonstrated proven success with professional, community, church and/or school choral programs.
