3rd Annual Kenneth Babcock Memorial Concert – April 12

The William Baker Festival Singers of Kansas City present the The 3rd Annual Kenneth Babcock Memorial Masterworks Concert, Celebrating the Music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: CORONATION MASS, VENI SANCTUS SPIRITUS, & EXSULTATE JUBILATE.  The chorus will be joined with members of the Kansas City Symphony, Sarah Tannehill Anderson, soprano, Kristee Haney, mezz-soprano, David Adams, tenor, and Paul Davidson, baritone.  The concert will be held on Sunday Afternoon, April 12th at 2:00 pm.  The location is Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral at 415 W 13th Street (at Broadway) in downtown Kansas City.  Tickets are $20 adults; $15 students & +65; Under 12 Free and available at the Door or online at Eventbrite.  For Information Call 913-403-9223 or email Mail@FestivalSingers.org

Annual Piccolo Spoleto Bon Voyage Concert – May 17

The William Baker Festival Singers of Atlanta have thrilled capacity audiences at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival annually since 1989.  The Piccolo Spoleto Bon Voyage Concert will be an Atlanta preview of the performance that will be given by the Festival Singers on Memorial Day in Charleston.  This concert will also be the last performance by the Festival Singers that will be conducted by William Baker in Atlanta.  Advance purchase and early arrival is recommended.  The performance will be held on Sunday afternoon, May 17th at 3 pm. The concert will be at Grace United Methodist Church, located at 458 Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta.  Tickets are $15 adults; $10 students & +65; Under 12 Free and available at the Door or online at Eventbrite

Masterworks of Jewish Composers – April 14

The Zimria Fesitvale Atlanta and Lynn Swanson Festival Singers, along with members of the Orchestra of the American Heartland, present Leonard Bernstein’s CHICHESTER PSALMS and a new commissioned work by Amy Thropp.  The performance will be held on Tuesday evening, April 14th at 7:30 pm.  The concert will be held at the Congregation Beth Shalom, located at 5303 Winters Chapel Road in Atlanta.  Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for adults over 65 and students, and those under 12 are free.  They can be purchased at the door or online at Eventbrite.  For Information Call 678-787-9189 or email Mail@FestivalSingers.org

Each year on the weekend of the Super Bowl, the William Baker Festival Singers offer mid-winter concerts on each side of the state line.  If football is not for you, the performances offer a respite from Super Bowl frenzy.  If you are a football fan, rest assured that our Sunday concert will end soon enough for you to be in front of the television with snacks in hand.

The first season (1985-1986) of the Festival Singers culminated with a performance of the Brahms EIN DEUTSCHES REQUIEM.  As William Baker retires as Music Director & Conductor of the WBFS-Atlanta following the 2014-2015 season, it is fitting that his last masterwork performance with the original Festival Singers ensemble be the one that has been such an important part of the ensemble’s history.

The original Festival Singers, then called “Gwinnett” Festival Singers, held its first rehearsal on February 26, 1985.  On the 30th anniversary of that event members and alumni from all Festival Singers ensembles, in addition to The DeKalb Choral Guild and The Gwinnett Young Singers will gather in Atlanta for a gala celebration of this storied musical tradition.  The performance will be followed by a reception in honor of Dr. Baker’s nearly 40 years of service to the Atlanta community.
