Each year on the weekend of the Super Bowl, the William Baker Festival Singers offer mid-winter concerts on each side of the state line.  If football is not for you, the performances offer a respite from Super Bowl frenzy.  If you are a football fan, rest assured that our Sunday concert will end soon enough for you to be in front of the television with snacks in hand.

The original Festival Singers, then called “Gwinnett” Festival Singers, held its first rehearsal on February 26, 1985.  On the 30th anniversary of that event members and alumni from all Festival Singers ensembles, in addition to The DeKalb Choral Guild and The Gwinnett Young Singers will gather in Atlanta for a gala celebration of this storied musical tradition.

The first season (1985-1986) of the Festival Singers culminated with a performance of the Brahms EIN DEUTSCHES REQUIEM.  As William Baker retires as Music Director & Conductor of the WBFS-Atlanta following the 2014-2015 season, it is fitting that his last masterwork performance with the original Festival Singers ensemble be the one that has been such an important part of the ensemble’s history.  The performance will be followed by a reception in honor of Dr. Baker’s nearly 40 years of service to the Atlanta community.

Annual Thanksgiving Benefit Concert & Art Show Benefiting Wayside Waifs

Each year on the Friday before Thanksgiving the Festival Singers perform a benefit concert for a local charity.  This year the concert will be joined by an art show and sale in the Gallery of the magnificent Frank Lloyd Wright Community Christian Church.  Proceeds from the concert and from the art show will benefit Wayside Waifs (www.WaysideWaifs.org) Kansas City’s largest no-kill animal shelter and pet rescue.
