Dorothy Goodson
Dorothy Goodson, a native of Illinois, has lived in the south for over 30 years. She received her BS degree from DePauw University in Indiana, and her MBA from Emory University. She obtained her CPA certificate in 1979.
For the last 16 years, Dorothy has worked at Emory University as the Business Administrator for the Department of Physiology. Her duties include budgeting, financial forecasting. It also includes managing roughly 50 research and training grants. They are funded mainly by the National Institutes of Health, but many are funded by various private foundations. Her prior experience includes accounting and audit work in public accounting and positions in small business as CFO.
Dorothy has never formally studied music (other than the required piano lessons as a kid.) She began singing with First Christian Church of Atlanta Sanctuary Choir in 1985. Off and on for roughly 14 years, she has taken private voice lessons. She presently studies with Don Brainerd, and now sings with the William Baker Festival Singers, the Northside Festival Singers, Summer Singers of Atlanta, and the Gwinnett Symphony Chorus.
Dorothy’s whole family is involved in music in one form or another. Her husband, John, is a member of the Festival Singers, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Her older son, Preston participates in professional musical theatre, when he is not doing biomedical research at Emory University. Her younger son, Matthew, has played the flute and sung professionally, although his career path lies in biology.
The last six years with the various choruses sponsored by William Baker Choral Foundation have been an enriching and spiritual experience for Dorothy. She looks forward to many years of participating with the Choral Foundation. The organization has become an integral part of her life.
