Emily Fish graduated from Kansas State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Music Education and a minor in English literature with summa cum laude honors. In 2024, Emily completed her Master's of Music Education with Vocal Emphasis from the University of Kansas. During her time at KU, she served as a graduate teaching assistant, leading a class for prospective elementary school teachers on incorporating music into their classrooms. She has since adapted her course for professional development presentations at elementary schools. In June 2024, she passed her thesis defense with honors. Her research explores the use of non-technical feedback devices with singers and the acoustic and perceived effects it has on their singing tone.
Emily joined the William Baker Festival Singers in 2017 after singing with the summer community chorus. She served as student intern for the group for two concert seasons from 2021 - 2023. During her time as intern she directed several acapella pieces, as well as pieces with cello, harp, and organ accompaniment. Emily teaches general music at Leawood Elementary School in the Blue Valley School District. She has training in the Orff process and is passionate about music pedagogy for children and creating meaningful musical experiences for her students. She was appointed a Fellow of the Institute for Healthy Singing and Voice Research in July 2024. In her free time, Emily enjoys playing guitar and singing for various organizations in the Kansas City area. She makes her home in Olathe, Kansas, with her husband, Alex, and two cats, Artemis and Stuart.
