Dr. Priscilla Benge Zimmermann joined the staff of the Institute for Healthy Singing as a fellow in 2021. A native of Ohio, her family relocated to Oak Park, Illinois during her high school years. Priscilla attended American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign before receiving her Bachelors and Masters degree in Music Education and Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. Priscilla also holds an Ed.S. in Educational Administration from the University of New Mexico and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Music Education and Resilience Education from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her music students have included kindergarten through college-aged singers.
Priscilla has been active in choral music and education in northern New Mexico since 1973. She is an active singer, voice teacher, choral director, and clinician. Dr. Zimmermann was the guest conductor of the Sangre de Cristo Chorale’s December concert, Reverence and Joy, for the 2017-18 season.
Priscilla’s current passion is working with the aging singer. She develops and teaches various music courses for Santa Fe Community College Continuing Education, Santa Fe, NM, and the Osher LifeLong Learning Institute (OLLI) at University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ. Her teaching is informed and influenced by her training in Alexander Technique and her Orff and Kodaly certifications.
Priscilla and her husband, Eugene, divide their time between Santa Fe and Green Valley, Arizona.
