The Board of Trustees and the Music Staff of the William Baker Choral Foundation in Atlanta is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Dixon of Stone Mountain, Georgia, as Music Director Elect of the New South Festival Singers, our Atlanta-based semi-profesional chorale specializing in short-form sacred a cappella classics, new works and spirituals, in addition to annual performances of major choral-orchestra masterworks.
Mr. Dixon will take the reins as Music Director & Conductor of the Choral Foundation's oldest ensemble on June 1, 2025, and will begin leadership of rehearsals and performances of the Festival Singers with the ensemble's 2025-2026, 41st concert season.
Thomas Dixon holds the Bachelor of Music Education (Voice) from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, the Master of Music in Choral Conducting at Georgia State University where he was a student of Dr. Deanna Joseph and Dr. Patrick Freer, among others. He is presently a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Georgia, where he is a student of Dr. Daniel Bara and Dr. Sarah Frook Gallo, among others. His anticipated graduation is May 2026. He is a recipient of the Robert Shaw Choral Scholar Award in 2022, a 2023 Conducting Scholar through Chorus America Choral-Orchestral Academy in Fullerton, California, and a Grant Recipient from the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation in 2019. In July 2023 Thom was the conductor for the Northwestern Bach Academy in Evanston, Illinois.
Thom's church experience is extensive. He presently serves as Music Director for the Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Atlanta. Previously he served as Music Director for the Oconee Street United Methodist Church in Athens, Georgia, and Family Service Coordinator and Handbell Director for the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Charlottesville, Virginia. He makes his home in Stone Mountain.
