The William Baker Festival Singers conclude their 23rd concert season with a live, in-person performance in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Gold Dome) in downtown Kansas City. One performance only, Sunday, May 2, 3:00 PM. Masks and distancing will be required for all performers and audience. The concert will also be live-streamed on the Festival Singers Facebook page.
A highlight of the program will be the World Premier of two pieces that were the first and second prize winners of the New Choral Music Competition from the Institute for Choral Creativity. First Prize Winner is "Goli az dast beraft" (sung in Farsi) by Daniel Sabzghabaei. Second Prize Winner is a setting of Sara Teasdale's poem "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Sam Wu.
The remainder of the program will include highlights of the Festival Singers season, including works of Hildegard von Bingen, William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons and Johannes Brahms, along with resident composers Sean Sweeden and Ed Frazier Davis.
