(ATLANTA) New South Festival Singers 37th Annual Season Opening Concert

  • St. John United Methodist Church 550 Mount Paran Road Atlanta, GA, 30327 United States (map)

The New South Festival Singers present Feeling Human - A Journey Through the Soul, exploring the emotions we experience of longing, solitude, forlorn, grief, sadness, contentment, relief, joy and happiness. Join Music Director Lynn Swanson and Atlanta's beloved a cappella choir for a musical voyage that begins in ancient chant and culminates in the rousing spirituals and gospel songs that are a signature of the Festival Singers tradition. Featured composers include Palestrina, Schubert, Brahms, Randall Thompson, Daniel Elder, and many others.

In conjunction with the concert, Michael Thomas will be displaying his black and white photography from his project ‘The Stories of Us’, which challenges preconceptions and biases by sharing the untold, oft-neglected stories from our society through raw, black and white imagery. As illustrated in his recent book, he uses photography to illustrate humanity and ask questions about cultural identity around the Atlanta area by immersing people into little moments that speak unto a broader picture.
