Choral Student Internship: Advanced Choral Methods

MNU Course Number: EDCI 7817, MUSC 7818 Credits: 3 - June 1, 2024 - May 31, 2025

Candidates for the Choral Student Internship program engage in all aspects of choral leadership and managment of a large professional choral program in this one-year course (August to July). Students acquire hands on experience in rehearsal leadership, concert performance, score analysis, conducting auditions and working with singers of all backgrounds from professional to volunteer. Participants meet weekly with course facilitators.

Prerequisists: Applicants must hold a music Bachelor’s Degree and have aspirations for vocational choral music leadership and provide:

  • three professional letters of reference
  • statement of purpose essay
  • scheduled interview
  • successful singing audition for the Festival Singers

Voice Science for Teachers and Singers-Understanding and Optimizing Vocal Health

This course provides an in-depth exploration of singing voice science. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the vocal anatomy and physiology of singers at all stages of life and health. The course will cover practical techniques of voice care for oneself and others, common occupational voice risks, and strategies for optimizing vocal performance. Drawing on the latest research in voice science, this course is ideal for singers, choir directors, general music teachers, vocal coaches, and anyone interested in the science of the human singing voice.
